MASAMUNE-KUN NO REVENGE SPOILERS

This post is likely to be on the shorter side since I just want to talk about my feels about Masamune-kun after watching it for the first time.  So simply put, my feelings are quite mixed.  Season 1 I enjoyed to a decent extent, the OVA was just a straight spoiler, and season 2 is where my feelings really start getting mixed.

Season 1
The start of the anime was pretty decent.  You get introduced to the narcissistic and popular Masamune then go to the school where we see some cringy guy get rejected by Aki.  A nice simple introduction to the main characters.  From this first scene, I thought I was gonna like it because it seemed like it would be a nice comedy and romance anime.  The plot also seemed quite interesting as Masamune tries to get aki to fall in love with him in order to reject her and break her heart the same way she did to him.  Even though Aki was portrayed to be a sadistic a-hole, I didn’t really feel any hatred for her in my gut.  As we will later find out in season 2, my gut was right and Aki was indeed not what we originally thought she was.  Ngl though, I felt pretty neutral to Yoshino though.  Maybe this has to do with the fact that Minase Inori is her VA and Inorin is one of my favorite VAs.  Of course with season 2 my opinion of her diminished.  I was annoyed by Fujinomiya though because she was creating a love triangle when I just wanted the romance between Masamune and Aki.  Even after she was rejected and was revealed to have her illness, I still can’t say I was very fond of her because she really was a nuisance to the main romance throughout the story.  Gasou on the other hand, oh boy do I hate him/her so much.  If you’re “poor” and need to pay medical bills for you sister, why tf would you try to marry into some richer family to drain their funds instead of just selling your massive mansion.  Like bruh, if you’re so concerned about money, sell the damn mansion first.  You don’t need to live in luxury if your sister is more important.  Even if your mansion is in bad condition, that much land will still sell for quite a good amount, so trying to get your way into the Adagaki family instead pissed me off so much.  In general though, besides some of these annoying side characters, I enjoyed season 1 and seeing Aki develop feelings for Masamune while Masamune also starts developing feelings for  Aki again while trying to take revenge was pretty cute.

OVA
Yeah, this is just a spoiler.  But also tbf, a season 2 wasn’t planned at the time, so they didn’t know that the OVA wasn’t gonna be the end, but unfortunately if you’re watching after season 2 has already aired like me, the OVA just becomes a plain spoiler showing that Masamune and Aki are probably already together, Yoshino is in love with Masamune, and also Aki’s hair.  Also the first half was indeed pretty funny.  Did have a laugh seeing 3 identical lolis, and the makeup thing making the aunt look not like a loli is funny because it doesn’t make sense lmao.

Season 2
Alright, now here’s where it gets messy.  First of all, there was literally no point in them going on a field trip to France.  It was only 2 episodes and the only thing it really contributed to in terms of the main story is just showing that Masamune and Aki still have feelings for each other and Gasou is indeed still a mf.  I get that going on a field trip to France offers a plot, but going aboard to another continent like that normally makes you think there’s at least going to be a full arc or something big that happens there, but this just felt like a waste of time and offered little to the story.  I personally don’t think that field trip was necessary at all.  Next is the big thing that caused me to have mixed feelings.  Why did they turn around and make this a romance drama instead of keeping it as a romcom.  I’m not the biggest fan of romance dramas, but I don’t always hate them either, but if I came to watch a romcom, don’t give me a drama.  This felt like they were trying to hard to milk more content.  All the different plot twists and unexpected 180s made it feel like I was watching a professional tag player avoiding the person who’s it.  It was all over the place with one plot twist after another.  Yoshino being the one who called Masamune “pig’s foot” is a good enough plot twist and makes it possible for Masamune to fully fall in love with Aki, but having her fall in love with Masamune and bring back the love triangle was just stupid imo.  We finally see Masamune and Aki get together, see a little wholesomeness, then it’s all destroyed.  Then the whole thing with Masamune not being in love with Aki anymore was so stupid too and uncalled for.  Heck, we didn’t even really know if that was true, because while Masamune was trying to sort out his feelings, the girls were creating an absolute shit show.  Neko telling Aki that Masamune doesn’t really love her pissed me off so damn much.  It was uncalled for, she didn’t need to say that, it felt like she was just still jealous that Masamune rejected her.  This really made it hard for me to like her at all.  Then with Yoshino, like I already said, why.  Why did you need to create a love triangle.  Let me have the romcom that was promised.  Then Aki breaking up with Masamune and telling Yoshino to go date him was awkward to watch because image your ex-boyfriend dating your life-long servant, ouch.  But then we get another plot twist and a complete 180 as Masamune ends up rejecting Yoshino and goes back to Aki, back to where we started.  Like bro, this was so unnecessary.  We just went through a crappy roller coaster just to end up back at the same place.  I really hated this whole drama part, but I’m also happy Masamune finally ended up with Aki, and at least some parts were kinda wholesome.

So to conclude my thoughts, season 1 is pretty decent, OVA is a spoiler, and season 2 is an unnecessary mess.  Also, the osts for this anime was pretty decent.  And a side note, I went into the dub to get these screenshots so they wouldn’t have the sub text on it, and man, the english voice actors really do not fit the characters at all, sub ftw.
