So, I just made this today and put it on youtube because why not.
As you may have guessed from my about me page, my site’s icon, and the banner, I’m somewhat of a Hayate no Gotoku fan, and Hinagiku is indeed my waifu. So you know how there’s people who love a waifu/husbando a lot or an anime/manga a lot that goes and does something for it to show their love for it, for example the Vtuber Reiya who is also a massive Hayate fan and created a whole channel about it and even got an interview with Hata-sensei himself (she’s a very good Vtuber btw), I wanted to do something like that.
I’ve been thinking about it for a long time, but I suck at drawing, I’m not really good at streaming or making videos in the same way Reiya does, and most importantly, as a young person, money is scarce. However, while watching a video of one of those crazy otakus that has rooms and stuff filled with print outs and stuff of a single character (for example the image below), I came up with the idea of just collecting a crap ton of Hinagiku pictures.
I actually came up with this idea over half a year ago, but as much as I want to say I don’t have a life, it’s more I wish I didn’t have one because I’ve been so busy this past year. Now that it’s the summer, I have more free time, but I still have some responsibilities to do, so right now this is kind of a way to procrastinate doing those responsibilities. But regardless, I have now started.
So my original plan was take a flash drive and just screenshot every image of Hinagiku in the anime and manga, and collect every picture, video, and whatever of Hinagiku I could find and just throw it all onto the flash drive. Though a problem I ran into was what exactly would a screenshot of every Hinagiku image in the anime be? In the manga I can simple screenshot the panels, but the anime has frames, and in a lot of the frames, she’s just in the exact same position, so I though maybe I should just take a screenshot of every distinct shot of Hina. But again, what counts as distinct? Do I screenshot every tiny little change in position, or do I only take screenshots of major position changes? Well the answer is, I just decided to take a screenshot of every frame anyway. A lot of the frames will have her in the same position, but like I said in the video description, I’m fine with doing more work since it just shows my love and dedication for her.
So now I have my plan, I got my flash drive, with the help of a discord friend I figured out a way to get individual frames, and I had the motivation to procrastinate on my actual responsibilities, so I got to work. What I’m going to do to is put all the screenshots from each OP, each ED, and each episode into their own folders to keep it all organized. To start off small and somewhere that makes sense, I started with the first OP animation.
Ngl, I didn’t realize until now how little Hina is in the first OP. She’s only in 2 scenes which adds up to a couple of seconds. But even with how short her screen time was, it came out to be 159 frames. I knew that it takes a lot of frames to make up an anime, but it’s hard to really understand the extent of it until you actually look at each individual frame. From what I see online, anime are normally at about 24fps, so if you multiple that by 24 minutes for a standard episode, that comes out to 34,560 frames to an episode. That’s crazy. Even crazier, you gotta remember that most of these frames are still hand drawn by people, this only increases my respect for animators and makes me even angrier about how little pay anime animators get and how overworked so many of them are. It took me half an hour to screenshot and number all 159 frames, but imagine drawing all of those, damn.
Well anyway, I got all the screenshots, and I figured why do all this work and just keep it to myself? So I decided to compile it into a video and put it on youtube. I honestly don’t expect my video to get big or anything, I’m mainly just posting it for my own enjoyment and the enjoyment of any other Hina lovers out there. So in the future I’m probably going to keep posting more of these videos, but it’s going to take a while because this one took me several hours, and it’s really really really short in comparison to most other scenes and stuff with Hina.
I’m not really much of a video editor or anything (that’s why I started a blog instead of a youtube channel talking about anime), so its definitely not the best quality, but I have a tiny bit of experience of video editing from school projects and stuff, so it’s simple, but works. Like I also said in the video description, I’m writing out all the numbers and taking all the screenshots manually, so that definitely makes it a lot more work and more time consuming, but I’m willing to do it. I’m sure there’s some time of bot or AI or something that will make this go by faster, but I’m not really that good at a lot of technology and stuff so I have no idea how to do it and will just make a mess trying, and again, doing the manual work just shows my dedication to Hina. So yeah, sorry if it’s not the best quality, but it works imo.
If I’m gonna be honest, I have always kinda wanted to be one of those guys that has anime stuff all over their house like in the above picture, but of course that’s pretty costly. Someday in the distant future, hopefully I’ll have the money and room to be able to cover my walls in pictures of Hinagiku, and when I do, maybe I’ll be able to use my potential collection of Hina images on my flash drive to do so. Nice dream to have, and the start of that dream is now as I collect these images.
Well, thanks for reading my rambling about making this video and stuff. I might make posts like this in the future when I upload more Hinagiku frame videos (which will probably be a while until the next one). Bye for now
